Wanda Sykes gained recognition for her work on the television late-night talk show The Chris Rock Show as a writer, for which she was credited with a Primetime Emmy Award in 1999. Sykes is also known for her roles on sitcoms and comedy series such as The New Adventures of Old Christine on the CBS network, Curb Your Enthusiasm on the HBO network, and Black-ish on ABC network. At present, Sykes stars in the original series on Netflix, The Upshaws, which premiered in May 2021. The comedian actress is one of the 25 funniest people in America by Entertainment Weekly.

Besides her television appearances, Sykes also starred in several big-screen movies in the mid-2000s until recent years. This includes Monster-in-Law, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Evan Almighty, License to Wed, Over the Hedge, Barnyard, Brother Bear, and Rio. Early on in her life, Sykes attended Arundel High School. After graduating, she went to Hampton University and obtained a bachelor’s degreein marketing.
