Nicky Wire | Politics
Nicholas Allen Jones, also professionally known as Nicky Wire, is an incredibly talented Welsh musician. Nicky is best known as the bassist and occasional vocalist of the alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers. He also served as the co-writer for the band’s lyrics from 1989 to 1995, and he became the primary lyricist for the band from 1995 onward. Besides his work with the band, he was also able to release a solo album back in 2006.
Wire’s knack for music is undeniable, but one interesting fact about him is that he studied politics at university. He graduated with a BSc in Politics from his time at Swansea University back in 1990. You could certainly tell his exceptional intelligence just by listening to his lyrics, which were heavily influenced by his degree. He certainly used his education to his advantage, and his contributions to his band enabled them to win eight Q awards, four BRIT awards, and 11 NME Awards.
